Studio — about & services

Studio

A small, senior studio for brands and products that need identity, motion and code to arrive as one thing. You work directly with the people who design and build it — no account layer, no hand-offs to strangers.

Why off/form

Most studios hand identity to one team, motion to another and the build to a third. We keep all three in the same room, so the idea survives contact with the browser.

Projects a year
8–10, by choice

That's the whole pitch. A mark that was designed knowing how it will move. An animation system that was written with the component library open. A launch site that ships with the same timing curves as the film. Fewer translations, fewer compromises, and a result that feels authored rather than assembled.

How we work

Process

Five phases, the same on every project. Sprints compress them; partnerships loop through them.
  1. [01]1–2 weeks

    Listen

Interviews with the people who'll live with the work, a teardown of what exists, and an honest read of the constraints: budget, tech, politics, deadline.

Output — A one-page brief we both sign off

  2. [02]1–2 weeks

    Frame

Two or three distinct directions, each shown moving and in context — on a phone, in a deck, on a poster — never as a static moodboard.

Output — One chosen direction, with reasons

  3. [03]3–8 weeks

    Form

The direction becomes a system: type, colour, grid, motion principles and components, pressure-tested against your real content rather than lorem ipsum.

Output — Design system, motion language, prototypes

  4. [04]3–10 weeks

    Build

Designers and developers work in the same files. Weekly builds you can click, accessibility and performance budgets checked as we go, not at the end.

Output — Production code and assets

  5. [05]Ongoing

    Launch & tend

We ship with you, watch what happens, then tune. Every handover includes guidelines and a recorded walkthrough so your team can carry it on without us.

Output — Launch, guidelines, handover session

Who you'll work with

Team

Four people, all senior, all hands-on. We bring in a small network of specialists when a project calls for it.
  • Inês Valadares

    Founder, creative director · Lisbon

Led identity work in-house and at agencies for a decade before deciding she'd rather make fewer things, better. Draws everything by hand first.

  • Tomas Achterberg

    Motion director · London

Came up cutting title sequences. Thinks in curves and frame counts, and will happily argue about a 40ms ease for an afternoon.

  • Priya Ramanathan

    Technical director · London

Front-end engineer who cares about the last 10%: focus states, reduced motion, first paint. Keeps the whole studio honest about performance.

  • Oskar Lindqvist

    Real-time & shaders · Lisbon

Former games graphics programmer. Builds the things people ask "is that a video?" about. It usually isn't.

In their words

They were the first team who showed us the logo moving before they showed it standing still. That changed how our whole company talked about the brand.
Hannah OkaforHead of Brand, Quillon Health
We got designers who understood the codebase and developers who cared about the kerning. Launch week was the calmest we've ever had.

Before you ask

FAQ

What size of project do you take on?

Most of our work sits between a three-week sprint and a four-month identity-plus-website project. If your budget is below our starting points, tell us anyway — we can often suggest a smaller first step that makes sense.

Do you only work with clients in the UK and Portugal?

No. About half our clients are elsewhere in Europe and North America. We keep at least four hours of overlap with your working day and travel for kick-offs when it helps.

Can you work with our existing brand or in-house team?

Yes, often. We regularly extend an existing identity into motion or build on top of a design system someone else started. We'll say plainly if we think something needs rethinking first.

Who owns the work at the end?

You do. On final payment, all rights in the work we create for you transfer to you, including source files and code. Licensed fonts and third-party assets stay under their own licences, and we'll list them clearly.

How do you price?

Projects are fixed-fee against an agreed scope, invoiced in stages. Partnerships are a monthly retainer. We don't bill hourly, and we don't add surprise line items — if scope changes, we agree it in writing first.

How soon can you start?

We usually book four to eight weeks ahead. Sprints can sometimes start sooner. The contact form asks about your timeline so we can be straight with you from the first reply.
